Ryder Cup News - Message from Colin Montgomerie

When Wales was announced as the host country for The 2010 Ryder Cup nine years ago it seemed an eternity away but now, here we are with less than a year to go until The Celtic Manor Resort welcomes golf's greatest team event.

It has been an extremely busy time with the wonderful Year to Go celebrations taking place at The Celtic Manor Resort

My wife Gaynor and I were delighted to welcome our good friends Corey Pavin and his wife Lisa over to Wales for the occasion and I'm sure they enjoyed themselves at the Gala Dinner, as did everyone who attended.

It was perhaps fitting that the match ended all square but rest assured things will be a lot more competitive in 12 months time when the serious business of The Ryder Cup itself gets under way.

The excitement is growing and growing now that the qualification process is in full swing and those emotions will only intensify over the coming months as we all look forward to the whole Ryder Cup experience.

Already I have seen plenty to impress me from the players vying to get into my Team, from some fine performances in the Vivendi Trophy with Seve Ballesteros to some equally impressive displays in European Tour events.

The Vivendi Trophy, in particular, was a good learning experience from a Ryder Cup perspective. I realise now that I will need more helpers to keep track of everything that is happening out on the course. Both on course and from the Sky Sports studio I was able to observe some really impressive performances from my potential Team members, some of whom I had not seen a lot of before.

We are blessed with an abundance of outstanding talent in European golf at the moment and I will certainly have much to think about in the build up to The Ryder Cup.

The Americans showed in the Presidents Cup that they will be as strong as ever but with the depth of talent in European I still firmly believe we can regain The Ryder Cup.
